Light, fine and soft sand, clear and iridescent blue waters, contrasts of light created by the reflections of the sun. Between Mount Ferru, rich in woods and paths, and Quirra lies the Marina di Tertenia, about ten kilometers from the main center of southern Ogliastra. It extends for twelve kilometers, composed of splendid sandy beaches, interspersed with rocky coasts, among which Foxi Manna (large mouth) and Melisenda known as Foxi Murdegu stand out, both with numerous services: beach equipment and boat rental, camping and hotels, bars and restaurants, large parking, also suitable for campers. Close to the coast are hills with lush Mediterranean scrub. The two coastal 'jewels' of Tertenia are separated by a promontory surmounted by the tower of San Giovanni Sarrala, built at the beginning of the 18th century to spot enemies, then transformed into a bunker in the Second World War. Below the tower you can reach a small beach called Sarrala, with pebbles and a little light sand. Here stood the original village of the same name, which derives from the Roman city of Saralapis. Between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century the area was involved in the mining activity of minerals transported to the port of Santoru, south of the marina. Foxi Murdegu is located immediately after the beach of Coccorrocci (Gairo sant’Elena): it is 1 km and 700 meters long and has a mix of light sand and pebbles. Its waters are transparent and of an iridescent blue. Around the beach the Mediterranean greenery encloses. Next to it, to the north, there is the arch of gray and pink pebbles and coarse-grained sand of Foxi de Lioni. To the south it is separated by the isolated beach of su Prettu. Foxi Manna, at the foot of the beautiful Mount Cartucceddu, is shorter, about a kilometer of very white and thin, fine and soft sand. A paradise with an uncontaminated charm with a shallow seabed and bordered by rocks, ideal for snorkeling and underwater fishing. The water is clear, blue and turquoise. The beach is never crowded thanks to its size, not even in high season. The Aleri nuraghe dominates its bay, the main one of 80 nuraghes of Tertenia (in addition to thirty or so Giants' tombs, about twenty Nuragic villages and a sacred well). Three other beaches of Tertenia are Abba Urci, pink and gray pebbles that dive into transparent and brilliant waters, Tesonis, also known as Sferracavallo beach, and Barisoni, both with coarse golden sand and pebbles. In addition to the beaches, Tertenia has a myriad of natural attractions, especially the holm oak forests of Crabiolu, Fustiragili and Bingionniga set in fascinating landscapes between the sea and the mountains (Mount Ferru, Mount Arbu and Taccu mannu). All around the suggestive scenery of the Quirra river and its tributaries and fields cultivated with Cannonau vineyards.
